Resolution

Communities are invited to use the following resolution template:

Overview

Whereas, wild birds are valuable for their intrinsic beauty, for connecting people to nature, for the essential ecosystem services they provide, and as an early warning system for the impacts of ecological degradation and global climate change; and

​

Whereas, nearly 500 species of wild birds use the Oregon landscape for some portion of their annual life cycles including migration, breeding and stopover habitat; and 

 

Whereas, many wild birds are found on urban and suburban landscapes and these landscapes provide both opportunities to see, enjoy and protect wild birds as  well as significant hazards to wild birds; and

 

Whereas, many bird species are experiencing significant declines due to habitat loss, hazards, and the impacts of climate change; and

 

Whereas, connecting people to birds where they live, work and play can build a culture of conservation; and

 

Whereas, birds help generate local economic development; and

 

Whereas, birds are an indicator of a healthy environment; and 

 

Whereas, everybody should have the right to see and enjoy wild birds in their neighborhoods;

Be it resolved:

 

That _________ seeks to become certified as a Bird Friendly Community.

 

Be it further resolved that ______________ and/ or its community partners commits to meeting the certification criteria in each of the following categories: Habitat, Hazard Reduction, Education/ Outreach, Research, DEI;

 

Be it further resolved that ______________ and/ or its community partners commits to placing signage (provided by BFC Program) announcing its Bird Friendly Status in a prominent Location.

 

Be it further resolved that _______________ and/ or its community partners commits to maintaining a web presence describing its Bird Friendly Community Status and Program.


 

Be it further resolved that _______________ and/ or its community partners commits to annual reporting and updating of the program, including adding at least one new program element, in order to maintain its Bird Friendly Community Status.
